Celebrate the arrival of Spring in the Costa Blanca

Spring really brings the region to life and there is so much to enjoy, here are just some of the celebrations which take place to welcome the season in during April in the Costa Blanca.

Embracing Local Traditions

When you decide to buy a home in the Costa Blanca some of your incentive maybe the sence of community and tradition to be found here and once you live here you can embrace this and start to feel truly at home. Easter Week will see colourful and solemn processions starting with the Palm Sunday Mass and leading up to Easter Sunday itself. Religious brotherhoods will carry elaborate floats with statures of Christ and the Virgin Mary. Ondara will celebrate with an impressive representation of the Passion. In Calpe, where we have just opened a new Hamiltons of London office, there will be plenty of Easter celebrations with the most significant taking place on Good Friday with the Procession of the Holy Burial. Participants dress in traditional robes for this solemn occasion which is deeply ingrained in the towns local traditions and faith. The Mayor of Calpe is particularly keen to increase the recognition of the Semana Santa celebrations in an effort to have the fiesta declared as one of Regional Tourist Interest. For those living in Moraira or nearby the town blends the religious events and processions with other cultural events including concerts, guided walks and fun activities for children.

San Vicente Ferrer

Another meaningful occasion for homeowners in Teulada, Moraira and Benissa as well as for residents of other towns in the Marina Alta is the festival of a revered saint of the Valencia region, San Vicente Ferrer. Held every year in April the festivals honour the saint with processions, traditional music, communal meals and firework displays. This is a great festival to participate in and immerse yourself in the authentic spirit of your home within the Valencian community.

Outdoor Activities

With the weather warming up and the days becoming longer April is a wonderful month for homeowners in the Costa Blanca to reconnect with the wonderful surroundings that first attracted us to this area. The countryside and mountains with its olive, almond and citrus groves as well as the vast exanses of vineyards encompassed in rugged mountains are ideal areas to explore on foot, by bike or on horseback. The area bursts with spring flowers and blossoms and the scent is intoxicating, this colourful perfumed landscape also offers us magnificent views and areas of tranquility to just switch off from the world and enjoy nature. The beaches start to come to life with water sports for those who want to explore the underwater magic of the Mediterranean Sea but, it is a time for locals to really benefit before the tourist season truly begins.  The bodegas of the Jalon valley are also a great place to visit and enjoy a tasting of locally produced wines including the regions famous Moscatel.

Delightful Gastronomy

When living in the Costa Blanca we soon get used to the wonderful variety of excellent ingredients available to us and our local restaurants, the spring harvest allows us to enjoy season fair such as asparagus, artichokes and strawberries all grown and picked locally. This together with the wonderful seafood, fresh fish and wine ensures that our Mediterranean diet is fresh, seasonal, exciting and delicious.
