With many of the routes along the coast you can do as much of it as you feel capable of and the journey from Denia to Javea is a 20km long moderately easy route but it does include some climbing as it circles around the Montgo, steeper more challenging routes across the mountain can also made by more experienced riders. The journey from Moraira to Calpe is about 24km and is again easy to moderate but, the winding roads are shared with motorists and caution is encouraged if you follow this path. The views of the sea along the road are lovely and there are stopping points along the way so do take advantage of these to enjoy the scenery. Heading further south the route journey from Altea to Benidorm is relatively easy with flat stunning coastal views and a more relaxing experience for families and less experienced cyclists.
The challenging 10 km Sierra Bernia ride is worth the climb to reach the magical views across the Mediterranean Sea and surrounding mountains. The Jalon Valley offers a large variety of options from easy to moderate terrain through the valleys and hills. You can enjoy stopping during your ride to enjoy the villages of the valley indulging in a light lunch perhaps at one of the many cafes, bars and restaurants. The Jalon Valley is a picturesque area with an abundance of vinyards, olive, almond and citrus groves and in the spring particularly the scent and colours of the blossoming trees is something to behold.
The Sierra Helada natural park between Albir and Benidorm winds through pine forests towards the mountain tops and the runs along the cliff’s edge. The route is well marked and offers stunning scenery. Long and challenging but popular routes that are considered to be very worth while are also available in abundance. There are many more and a variety of shorter and longer versions to suit most cyclists and offer everyone a degree of challenge in addition to a wonderful experience amidst stunning scenery.
Initially plan your route with cycling maps and GPS devices avoiding areas that are heavy with traffic or busier times of the day. Keep an eye out for weather warnings AEMET provide these daily and do not venture out if storm alerts of any kind are being made. Take plenty of water with you to drink during longer rides, particularly during warmer times of the year when you can easily become quickly dehydrated. Do be very cautious on the roads and be very aware not just of motorists but, also of pedestrians and other cyclists. Off-road routes may also be hiking pathways so do bear this in mind. Just in case you need assistance make sure that your mobile phone is fully charged but, also that people at home know the route you are taking and how long you expect to be in case you are in an area with no coverage.
