The days are shortening but, the weather is still sunny with milder temperatures, blue skies and sun. Nonetheless, the party for those who live in the Costa Blanca doesn’t end and there are still plenty of things to enjoy during the Autumn now that most of the tourists have completed their holidays.
We share this beautiful coastline with an international community that has been welcomed and included by the Spanish locals and this has led to many additional festivals taking place that have been brought to us by other European neighbours and this includes the German Oktoberfest celebrated in most towns. This fiesta has become very popular throughout the Costa Blanca and includes typical German food and beer as well as live music and plenty of fun. In Calpe the festival starts between 7th and 10th October 2024 (to be confirmed), this was one of the first towns along the Coast to host this event started by a group of German residents in 1988 and it is now one of the largest in the area. Moraira will be holding the festival earlier on in 2024 at the end of September but, dates change annually. In Moraira the event takes place in the public car park where a large tent is set up with benches, tables, bar and a stage. Everyone is welcome and it is accessible too. Javea will follow on and celebrate this German tradition between 20th and 22nd October this year. Other towns will also be hosting similar events during the months so you can enjoy Bavarian hospitality and fun throughout this wonderful month if you live in the Costa Blanca.
Moraira’s Gourmet race takes place on October 8th with a regatta held in the Marina. This race is won by the best and most original dish invented in the ship’s galley rather than by the speed of any vessel. The boats do have to be at least 8 metres long with two crew members aboard. The ships cast off in the morning at three-minute intervals and return to port at lunch time to set up their dishes on dry land and serve them to the jury who will award the prizes.
At the end of October from 20th to 23rd it will be Calpe’s turn to celebrate this important period of Spanish history, witness the re-enactment of beach battles, enjoy the medieval celebrations, parades, costumes and music along with a good meal, a glass of local wine and of course spectacular firework displays.
This is held during a two-day period from 11th to 12th October in the party town of Benidrom where the best of Spain’s national music scene is shown off in the Bull Ring, so if you want to hear the latest songs from local talent make sure you don’t miss out on this iconic event.
October is the perfect time of year for those who live in the Costa Blanca to get out and about. There are fewer people than during the height of summer so arranging marine activities or a round of golf is easier, and the weather is kinder now that the intense heat of the summer has subsided. The countryside beckons those who enjoy walking or cycling and the beautiful Mediterranean Sea beckon those who want to sail the calm waters.
October is the perfect time of year to encourage your own family and friends to visit you in your Costa Blanca home. They will enjoy the weather and the temperatures, and you will be able to show them around with ease. Perhaps they would enjoy visiting some of the towns in the area including Altea, Javea and Moraira or visiting the towns of the Jalon valley and tasting the locally produced wine. It will also be easier to take them to visit the cities and particularly the excellent museums and galleries of Valencia. In the evening you will be able to enjoy local live music together followed by a tasty tapas or Paella without having to worry about pre-booking, unless it is at the weekend of you are in a large party when it might be advisable.
How lucky are we to live in the Costa Blanca? There is so much happening throughout the year and autumn is a great time to really enjoy our surroundings before we have to change the clocks back for winter on October 27th!!!
