Fiesta, Dance, Parades and Fire

Corpus Christi

This is also the month where summer is celebrated starting with the celebration of Corpus Christi In Denia dance groups perform and parades take place, the dances used at this time have a historical link to those first performed for this event in the fifteenth century with the tradition being re-introduced in the Denia in the 1994. In Teulada-Moraira there are also processions and the Dance of the Hobby Horses (Ball dels Cavallets) performed by a local dance group depicting the struggle between good and evil, there is also the Shepherds dance (El ball de Pastorets) and the Dance of Ribbons (Ball de les Vetes) all intertwined between more solemn processions and Holy Communion services in the churches of Teulada and Moraira. Corpus Christie is an important time in the Catholic calendar and you will find variations of the festivities whereever you choose to buy a house in the Costa Blanca.

San Juan Bonfires

San Juan Moraira - Bonfire Dance

Throughout the Costa Blanca there will be fires lit on beaches and in town squares on the night of 23rd June with communities gathered together to celebrate the summer solstice with food, wine, music, bonfires and fireworks. Many will write wishes on paper to throw into the fire for their dreams to come true and young men show their prowess by jumping over the flames, at midnight those who are enjoying San Juan on a beach will run into the sea to welcome the arrival of summer and in Alicante papier-mache sculptures are burned in squares and at crossroads. This is a great introduction to your new community and the traditions of Spain when you buy a home in the Costa Blanca.
