Many of the towns on the Costa Blanca, both along the coast and inland, are like postcards with their traditional houses and beautiful surroundings. This is indeed why many of us have chosen to buy property in the Costa Blanca, the year round warm climate also encourages us to find outdoor passtimes and what could be better than enjoying the local countryside on foot. There are great walks for those who just want a stroll as well as for those who are seeking more of a challenging experience.
This idyllic spot that separates Denia and Javea is home to a wonderful variety of plants, animals and birds and the mountain trail is a moderate hike that gives those who follow it some excellent panoramic views of the coast.
This beautiful area offers a more challenging hike with rugged cliffs that plunge into the Mediterranean Sea. The most popular route is 5km long and runs from Benidorm to the lighthouse in Albir and along the way you can enjoy encountering a variety of plants as well as historical sites and, if lucky, dolphins playing in the waves below.
This limestone Rock is possibly one of the most iconic landmarks along the coast and majestically overlooks the town of Calpe, it is a relatively short but steep hike and the route to the summit is well marked including a tunnel carved through the rock.
Taking a short drive to the town of Alborache, inland from Valencia will give those who enjoy amore leisurely experience an historical journey through countryside where the trail will take you through the area dotted with historic water mills that once were vital to the areas agricultural needs. This trail is fairly flat and accessible making it perfect for those who enjoy a gentle stroll where you can encounter streams, bridges and the tranquility of the Valencian countryside.
Inland from our homes in the northern Costa Blanca is the town of Alcoy which hides this gem of a park which is particularly stunning in the Autumn. There are several trails but, the most popular is the Mentjador which takes you through 5km of forests of oak and mapel and finishes at the Menetjador peak with beautiful views of the surrounding valleys and mountains.
This destination is popular with tourists throughout the Costa Blanca who take excursions during their holidays to enjoy the refreshing climate and swimming in the natural pools for the falls. There is also a popular walking route here which is ideal on a hot day, it is located near to Callosa d’en Sarria and will take you through the lush greenery of surrounding a series of stunning waterfalls descending into natural pools which give plenty of opportunities to stop and swim in the cooling waters.
This route is 3km one way with benches and picnic areas and explanatory information boards along the route. It runs along the Benissa Costa connecting various pretty little bays and makes a lovely family walk which can be taken at your own pace and with the choice to do just a part of it if you don’t wish to cover the whole length of the walk.
Many people who live in the Costa Blanca are also pet owners and what a wonderful way to enjoy a scenic walk along one of the less complicated routes along the coast or in the countryside than to with our four legged friends. There are also some great dog beaches and parks where you can let your dog enjoy a little freedom too. If you have not yet adopted a dog of your own then many of the rescue centres really appreciate volunteers taking the residents out from the kennels on walks and they will show you some excellent routes that you can use if you do eventually choose to adopt or foster one.
