As you know at Hamiltons Real Estate we love to introduce our customers to the splendours of the area, every month there is something different to celebrate and October is no different so get your diaries out and join in with the locals. Participating in any community events and fiestas is an excellent way for those looking for a property to buy in the Costa Blanca to become more familiar with their new community and home. Meeting people and making friends is what life in Spain is all about.
Among the many influential nationalities who have chosen to buy a home in the Costa Blanca are the Germans and they have brought with them some of their own traditions which have been embraced by the Spanish. Oktoberfest has become and annual event in many Costa Blanca towns, the oldest takes place in La Nucia during the first two weeks in October and is very authentic with traditional Bavarian food, live music from a German band and plenty of beer. Other towns also host similar events but dates do vary with some starting late in September and then continuing into October. Moraira, Calpe and Javea all hold their own Oktoberfest parties.
This fiesta takes place throughout the year in different towns along the coast and inland and commemorates the battles between the Moors and Christians during the Reconquista. This month is Benidorm and then Calpe’s turn to travel back through time and don medievil attire, armour and join the beach battles. The costumes and parades as well as the re-enactments are incredible and events culminate in spectacular firework displays.
The artisan festival in Altea takes place in October with plenty of workshops and activities relating to health, organic farming and much more.
This is a regional public holiday for the whole region which takes place on 9th October and is closely followed by a national holiday for Hispanic day on 12th, there will be a variety of celebrations but, these vary from year to year and town to town but, do be aware that banks businesses will be closed and shop opening hours may be limited and some will close.
This challenges participants to juggle their sailing and culinary skills, crews prepare a gourmet dish while sailing through the bay of Moraira and the main ingredient is provided by the organisation so contestents have improvise their menu using this. All the dishes are cooked on board the boats and they then return to the Moraira Nautical Club where judges consisting of well known chefs and experts in gastronomy will taste all entries and make a decision. While the contest itself involves the participants and judges the whole village of Moraira can gather at the nautical club to enjoy live cooking shows, tastings and watch the race on a big screen. There will also be plenty of other activities and music. It is truly a wonderful community event that those buying a property in Moraira or one of the other Costa Blanca towns should join in with and enjoy.
One of the highlights of buying a home in the Costa Blanca is that the climate is mild and remains sunning throughout most of the Autumn, this means that during the day there is plenty to do outdoors, although for some the sea and pools may now be too chilly, it is the perfect time of year to enjoy walks and, to explore neighbouring towns and enjoy time with family and friends.
