People usually have a fairly fixed idea of what Costa Blanca towns are going to be like before they arrive. Moraira tends to change that quite quickly.

It’s smaller than many expect, quieter too, and despite how well known it has become over the years, it still feels more like a coastal town than a large resort. You notice it straight away around the marina and the older parts of town. There’s movement and life, especially during summer, but it never really feels dominated by tourism in the same way as some nearby areas.

Teulada, sitting slightly inland, gives the municipality a completely different side again. The atmosphere changes within a few minutes of leaving the coast. Vineyards replace sea views, the roads become quieter, and daily life feels much more traditionally Valencian.

Life Around Moraira

The marina is probably where most people naturally gravitate first. Mornings are usually relaxed — people walking the front, stopping for coffee, or sitting outside near the water before the beaches become busier later in the day.

The beaches themselves are smaller and more sheltered than people often expect. L’Ampolla Beach is the easiest to reach from the centre and stays popular with families, while El Portet Beach feels quieter, particularly outside July and August.

Away from the coast, the scenery changes quickly. The roads around Teulada and towards the inland valleys are lined with vineyards, pine trees, and smaller residential areas hidden into the hillsides. Spring and autumn are especially popular for walking and cycling routes because the temperatures are easier for being outdoors most of the day.

The marina still plays a big role locally as well, with regular boating and nautical activities running throughout the year rather than only during summer.

Teulada, Festivals & Everyday Spanish Life

One thing people often mention after spending time here is that the area doesn’t completely close down once summer finishes.

There are still local markets running through winter, restaurants stay open, and the mix of Spanish residents and international homeowners gives the area a more year-round feel than some coastal towns further south.

Teulada itself still keeps much of its original character. Narrow streets, smaller cafés, local bakeries, and town squares make it feel very different from the coastline below.

Traditional celebrations remain an important part of life here too. The annual Moros y Cristianos festivals and Noche de San Juan still bring large crowds into the town each year, alongside smaller food and wine events across the municipality.

Coastline & Surroundings

Moraira’s coastline is relatively compact, although there’s quite a lot packed into a short stretch. Sandy beaches quickly give way to rocky coves, small cliff paths, and residential areas overlooking the sea.

Places like the Cap d’Or Watchtower and Moraira Castle are still part of the everyday landscape rather than separate tourist attractions, which says quite a lot about how the town has developed over time.
