You might think that buying property in Costa Blanca would feel like a permanent holiday, but this is not the case, and life is soon regulated whether you are retired or are working by the lifestyle choices you make. You will, therefore, still feel the need to escape your usually routine occasionally; perhaps to visit with family and friends or to see other parts of the wonderful Iberian Peninsula or explore other parts of the world. This is all possible when you live in the Costa Blanca with excellent International Airports just a short drive away, trains, Ferrys, and cruises within easy reach and an excellent road network across the whole country and Europe.
The Balearic Islands are just a short distance away when you buy a property in the Costa Blanca, Ferrys make regular crossings from Denia to Formentera, Ibiza and Mallorca making a short island holiday with the family an enjoyable and low-cost adventure, you can also book to take your car and family pet with you if needed. Using the Balearia website you can also book your hotel, activities and transport. The Canary Islands are just a plane ride away from Alicante Airport, so you have even more choice for Island visits.
Close to your new Costa Blanca home are the cities of Valencia and Alicante both of which are well worth taking occasional weekend trips but, just a half day drive away you can see the fascinating architecture of Guadi’s Barcelona and enjoy the vibrant city tapas bars and a day trip to Montserrat where the mountain monastery has incredible views of this delightful Mediterranean city. Further north the Pyranees mountains offer a wonderful escape from coastal heat with pretty villages, wonderful scenery and exhilarating outdoor activities.
Travelling south from the Costa Blanca to Almeria you will find an interesting landscape reminiscent of the wild west. Hollywood producers in the 60 and 70s used this location in Spain as the setting for Spaghetti Western films like A Fistful of Dollars, The Good the Bad and the Ugly amongst others. Here you can enjoy a visit to the Wild West Theme Parks, explore the dusty streets and wooden buildings, ride the horses, have a drink at the saloon and watch stunt shows and can-can dancers. Continuing our journey to the south of Spain; Andalucia is home to the wonderful city of Granada and the famous Alhambra palace, when travelling to this area it is also a wonderful experience to see the white villages which are pretty Andalucian villages founded during the Moorish occupation and traditionally painted white to keep the houses cool by reflecting the sun. Arcos de la Frontera is one of the white villages that is set on a hilltop with an impressive castle and is known for its flamenco caves where you can enjoy performances of this traditional Spanish dance. Another interesting set of dwellings to visit when you are in Andalucia are the cave villages where homes are built directly into cliff faces, this is particularly prevalent in the province of Granada and, in the village of Guadix there are over 2,000 of these houses some of which are still inhabited and others have been converted into restaurants, hotels and museums and evidence indicates that these caves have been inhabited for over 4,000 years.
If you enjoy skiing, you can do this without leaving Spain in the mountains of the Sierra Nevada which are very popular in the winter. Cordoba is a city where Spanish history is truly intertwined with Christian, Muslin and Jewish cultures mixing within the architecture and lifestyle of the city. Jerez de la Frontera is full of Sherry making bodegas and from the southern tip of Spain you can visit the British overseas territory of Gibraltar and its famous population of Barbary monkeys.
If you want to explore other countries while living in Costa Blanca, then this is a very easy matter from the Costa Blanca. International flights from both Alicante and Valencia allow worldwide travel whether you are visiting family and friends, going on a business trip or fulfilling a holiday dream in another country. The choices are endless and, with easy, reasonably priced parking at the airports and excellent assistance services, the world is your oyster.
A truly relaxing and reasonable holiday experience is available via both MSC and Costa Cruises from the Costa Blanca ports of Valencia and Alicante making holidays from the home you buy in the Costa Blanca affordable, enjoyable and memorable.
Whilst you have chosen to live the dream in your Costa Blanca home, there will still be times when you need a change of scene and you have chosen not just a great place to call home but, a fantastic place from which to travel and see the world!!!
