The month begins with a national holiday on 1st May with celebrations and a variety of festivals and events taking place throughout Spain.
May begins with four days of celebration in Moraira showcasing the wonderful gastronomic and commercial amenities to be found in the town. Stalls are set up serving tapas, drinks and local crafts and a stroll along here in the sunshine is relaxing, enjoyable and an excellent way to soak up the local atmosphere and meet new people enjoying a refreshing glass of local wine at one of the bars represented at the fair. During this early part of May celebrations of the towns Patron Saint San Vicent Ferrer will also continue with processions and fireworks this will be followed from 7th-10th May by the Medieval Festival and Market with stalls selling traditional crafts and food and there will also be plenty of entertainment. For those living in Moraira the town really comes to life at times like this and you begin to truly feel part of the community when you participate in these lively and interesting events. Other events in the towns of Teulada-Moraira in May 2025 will include a football tournament, a musical and comedy show.
This delightful festival commences at the end of April but, continues into the early part of May with street parades, coronation of festival queens, music, children’s activities and a giant paella – there are also controversial bull-running events but, checking the program can allow you to avoid these should you wish. The festival is very representative of the heart of Valencian culture and celebrates the towns Patron Saint Purissima Xiqueta. The 4th May 2025 will see a spectaicular closure of the fesitval with parades at 10:00 leading the participants to a solemn mass in honour of the Patron Saint at 11:30 with singing from the parish choir. This will be followed at 14:00 with mascletada – load daytime fireworks and the at 20:00 there will be a special end to the festivities at the Dolores Piera promenade with a Queen tribute concert.
This is a long fesitval that includes a lot of tradition with flower offerings, fireworkds, music and candlelit processions to express devotion and community spirit – just bear in mind that bull running will also feature during the festival but, areas and times for these events are clearly advertised in multi-lingual programs. A lovely part of this particular fiesta is highlighted by the traditional visit to elderly day care centres and homes where each resident is presented with a small gift. On the 3rd of May those living in Javea celebrate the ascenssion of Jesus of Nazatreth with Mass celebrated at mid-day with the Eucharist sung by the parish choir the evening Mass at 19:00 is dedicated to the sick and handicapped and this is followed by a procession with the image of Jesus of Nazareth through the streets of Javea. The day is completed with a firework display.
This is truly for those who were anxious to buy property in the Costa Blanca for the proximity to the sea to enjoy water sports and watch boating events. This competition is hosted by the Royal Calpe Nautical club and is a highly competitive sailing trial which attracts participants and spectators living in Calpe or close by.
When you buy a home in the Costa Blanca this is an event that is a must see!!! The streets of the city will be beautifully decorated with crosses made of flowers and there will be elaborate parades, music, food stalls and a great feeling of community. There is a friendly competative air to the event with neighbours and clubs endeavouring to creat the most colourful flower crosses as well as decorating their homes, streets and squares hopint that the town council might choose there cross as this years most beautifully decorated.
