June is a time for fiestas on the Costa Blanca, and these can be great fun for everyone. In Moraira, the historic Moors and Christians Festival usually starts with a music festival, with live local bands performing on a stage by the castle. The week continues with re-enactments of the battles between the invading Moors and the Christians re-taking the beach and the castle. There are spectacular costumes, parades with local marching bands, concerts on the castle stage, and fireworks. The beach battles include cleverly choreographed fights with boats coming in from the sea, sword fights on the sand, and impressive horseback and camel riding. Additionally, stalls are often set up selling souvenirs, local olive oils, nuts, spices, and other items connected with this fascinating period of Spain's history.

The whole Costa Blanca region celebrates the Hogueras de San Juan (St John's Bonfires) on the night of 23rd June, Midsummer's Eve. As it gets dark, the bonfires are lit, and in some places, papier-mâché figures are also set alight. The fires symbolise burning away bad luck and welcoming the summer solstice.

Boys and men often show off by jumping over the flames, and at midnight, everybody rushes into the sea once again to wash away the winter and welcome the summer. This is followed by a fireworks display, and many people choose to camp overnight on the beach, where there is usually music and dancing until the early hours of the morning.
As well as celebrating St John's with the rest of the area, Jávea also hosts the Montgorock Festival in June, a full weekend of great live rock music from some of the best national groups and artists at La Fontana, close to Arenal Beach. At the end of the month, the popular three-day Jávea International Festival takes place, showcasing the flavours and traditions of both the local and ex-pat communities. In addition to plenty of food and drink for everyone to enjoy, there is usually music and displays from each of the countries represented.
