The surrounding region has a quiet and relaxing atmosphere, with beautiful and unspoilt scenery and many small villages to explore.
Javea is a stunning coastal town situated on the Northern Costa Blanca, in the Province of Alicante, within Spain's Valencian Community, on the east coast of the country. Javea is easily reached and is situated between two major international airports (Alicante Airport to the south and Valencia Airport to the north). This means Javea can be accessed from most European countries and further afield by both scheduled and charter flights.
On arrival, simply head to Javea via the AP-7 motorway, which is the most direct and fastest route from both airports (around 60 minutes from Alicante and approximately 90 minutes from Valencia). The AP-7 has recently become a free-to-use motorway with all tolls now removed. For those looking for a more leisurely journey from the airport of their choice, the N-332 coastal road also leads to Javea, passing through many traditional Spanish villages and towns, together with some stunning Mediterranean sea views.
The town started off as a typical Spanish fishing village which, over the years, has become a wonderful location in which to both live and holiday. Javea still holds on to its original heritage, with its fleet of fishing vessels heading out each day and returning with the local catch in the evening.
Visitors to Javea are spoilt for choice with the excellent fish restaurants and international cuisine on offer. Tapas bars are located throughout this magical town, with plenty of delicious dishes to try. Tapas are small dishes of local specialities traditionally enjoyed with a glass of wine or an aperitif. Today they remain a great way to sample authentic Spanish food while enjoying the relaxed Mediterranean lifestyle.
The local people of Javea are both charming and accommodating to foreign visitors, as many local livelihoods depend on tourism within this fabulous area. Javea enjoys a typical Mediterranean climate, with cool sea breezes in summer and protection from the surrounding mountains against the cooler north winds during winter. The area averages almost 3,000 hours of sunshine each year, with average temperatures exceeding 20°C, making Javea an excellent destination throughout the year.
With a large European resident community there is a pleasant international feel to the area. Most people are happy to speak English, and even happier if visitors make a small effort to speak Spanish.
Javea offers both sandy and pebble beaches. Arenal Beach provides soft sand, while the Port area offers a gentle pebble beach. Both have crystal-clear waters and impressive rock formations, making them ideal for swimming, snorkelling and scuba diving. Equipment can be bought or hired locally for everyone to enjoy.
Boat hire is also available for the more adventurous, making it easy to explore the caves and coves along this beautiful stretch of the Costa Blanca coastline. You can even spend the day fishing from your own hired boat and claim to be captain for the day.
Javea is just one of those places where people return year after year. The warm Mediterranean Sea, wonderful climate, wide choice of restaurants for every budget, beautiful beaches, spectacular sunrises and safe environment all help make it such a popular destination.
Javea also offers a good selection of bars and nightlife, yet it has avoided the high-rise development seen elsewhere on the Costa Blanca. Consequently, many of the villas and apartments are owned by overseas residents who either holiday in Javea, live here permanently or choose to rent their properties to couples and families looking for either short-term holidays or long-term rentals. This has created a strong and well-established property market, making Javea an attractive place for both lifestyle buyers and property investors.
If you would like to know more about Javea, buying property in the area or the local property market, please contact one of the Hamiltons Real Estate Javea office and speak to people who know the area as well as anyone.
There’s something for everyone, from karting for the kids to romantic candlelit evenings for the mums and dads. Other activities include jet skiing, kayaking, paddleboarding, paintball, camping, sailing, snorkelling and scuba diving. Boat trips are available from Javea and nearby Dénia, including seasonal trips to the Balearic Islands, while shorter excursions explore the spectacular coastline, caves and coves that make this part of the Northern Costa Blanca so popular.
Memorable walks and mountain biking through the orange groves and stunning countryside are available throughout the year, while Javea also has its popular daytime and evening markets, together with a charming cinema showing English-language films. Whether you prefer relaxing on the beach, exploring the coastline or enjoying the many cafés, restaurants and local fiestas, you can make your time in Javea as interesting or as relaxing as you please.
We look forward to seeing you soon and are always happy to answer any questions you may have.
Javea has long been recognised for its excellent climate and outstanding quality of life. In 1986 the World Health Organisation recommended the climate of the area as one of the most equitable in the world – neither too hot in the summer nor too cold in the winter. On average, the area enjoys around 325 days of sunshine each year, making it an ideal destination for holidays, retirement and year-round living.
Combined with excellent healthcare, a wide range of amenities, an international community and easy access to Alicante and Valencia Airports, it is easy to understand why so many people choose to buy property and make Javea their home.
