The really intense summer heat starts to ease, the beaches remain very much part of everyday life, and there is still plenty happening around the town. In fact, if you are considering buying a property in Calpe, September is an interesting month to experience the town because you can see more than just the summer holiday side of it.
There are markets in the morning, cultural events in the Old Town, music in the squares, theatre, guided walks and activities by the sea.
So, if you're going to be in Calpe this September, here are some of the things worth putting in your diary.
The II Street Performance Festival – “Somiart” Old Calpe takes place on 1, 2 and 3 September, with performances from 6pm in Plaza de la Villa.
It is exactly the sort of event that gives you a reason to wander up into the Old Town in the early evening. Calpe's historic centre has a very different atmosphere from the seafront, and events in the square are a good excuse to explore it.
There is also Art Street in the Old Town of Calp on Saturday 5 September and Saturday 19 September, from 7pm to 10pm, along Santísimo Cristo Street.
If you are looking at property in Calpe, spending time in both sides of the town is worthwhile. The beachfront and marina give you the obvious Mediterranean lifestyle, while the Old Town offers something quite different.
If you like wandering around local markets, September has two regular options.
The weekly street market takes place every Saturday from 8am to 2pm. Fruit and vegetables are sold in the parking area at C/Petit in the Old Town, while clothes, shoes and bags are available along Avenida Rumanía.
There is also a flea market every Wednesday, from 9am to 2pm, at the new parking area between Avenida País Valencià and Avenida Rumanía.
For something later in the day, the craft market runs every day from 6pm until 1am around Plaza Mediterráneo and Calle Alemania.
One of the nice things about living somewhere like Calpe is that these aren't necessarily things you have to plan a special day around. You can simply go for a walk, pick up some fresh produce, have a coffee and carry on with your day.
That's quite different from visiting a resort purely for a week's holiday.
There is plenty of live music during September.
On Saturday 5 September, Unió Musical Calp Ifach gives an itinerant concert starting at 8pm from Miguel Roselló Square.
Then on Thursday 17 September, the Auditorium at Casa de Cultura hosts “Immersive Classical”, a music and light concert at 8pm. Tickets range from €21 to €38 depending on seating.
On Saturday 19 September, Xaranga La Xarlotà gives another itinerant concert, again starting from Miguel Roselló Square at 8pm.
For classical music lovers, Camerata Odesa – “The Four Seasons” by A. Vivaldi takes place on Saturday 26 September at 7.30pm at Casa de Cultura. Admission is free, subject to capacity.
The month finishes with another concert on Sunday 27 September at midday in Plaza de la Villa, as part of the XXIII Campanya de Concerts d'Intercanvis Musicals.
September isn't just about being outdoors.
The “Ya Me Has Tocado El Cuento” theatre performance takes place on Friday 4 September at 7.30pm at Casa de Cultura, with free admission subject to capacity.
On Friday 11 and Saturday 12 September, La Filà Berberiscos presents “La Mort d'un Viatjant... de Llibres a Comissió” at 8.30pm. Tickets are €10, with proceeds going towards the 2026 Moorish Captaincy.
There is also “Sé Tortuga” by Xip Xap Teatre on Saturday 19 September at 6.30pm, with free admission, and “The Woman in Black” by Susan Hill on Friday 25 September at 7pm at Saló Blau, Casa de Cultura.
For anyone buying a home in Spain as a permanent base, this kind of programme is worth noticing. It is easy to concentrate on beaches and sunshine when looking at Costa Blanca property, but year-round cultural activity tells you something about the town itself.
September is also a good month for some of the organised guided tours around Calpe.
Free guided tours of the Old Town, in Spanish, are scheduled for 2, 5, 7, 12, 19 and 26 September at 6.30pm. Advance registration is required.
There are also free guided outdoor tours of the Ricardo Bofill buildings on 5, 12, 19 and 26 September at 10.30am.
The Baños de la Reina also has free guided tours, although visitors are asked to check the available times and register in advance.
There are theatrical guided tours of the historic centre on Friday 11 and Friday 25 September at 7pm.
If you're considering buying in Calpe, these are the sorts of activities we would encourage you to make time for. Don't just drive around looking at villas.
Walk through the Old Town. See the port. Spend time around the beaches. Sit down for a coffee. Look at where people actually live and spend their time.
You learn a lot more about a place that way.
Beach life doesn't disappear just because August is over.
Free Zumba on the beach continues until 25 September. Sessions take place at Plaza Mediterrani on La Fossa Beach and Plaza Colón on Arenal Beach, with different sessions on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings or evenings.
There is also the International Beach Volleyball Tournament on Friday 4 and Saturday 5 September at Platja de la Montanyeta, with sessions running in the morning and afternoon.
For people considering moving to Calpe, this is another part of the lifestyle worth experiencing. Outdoor activities aren't necessarily something reserved for the height of summer here.
And, of course, there's always the sea.
The Calp Tourist Train provides a simple way to get around some of the town's main areas, with stops including Plaza Colón, Hotel Europa, the port, Hotel Esmeralda and Plaza Mayor in the Old Town. The listed price is €5 for adults and €3.50 for children.
There are also boat excursions, including glass-bottom boat trips from Benidorm, subject to weather conditions.
Mundomarino Excursiones offers catamaran trips from Calpe, including excursions with swimming stops, sunset cruises, days at sea and afternoon cruises. The programme advises checking the available days, times and departure point before booking.
For families, Family Park on Avenida Ejércitos Españoles is another option, with opening hours to be checked before visiting.
Some of Calpe's attractions don't require an organised event at all.
Casa Nova offers free entry, while the Virgen de las Nieves Parish Church in the Old Town is open daily at the listed times, except that visitors are asked to avoid visiting during Mass.
At the harbour, the Fish Auction at the Fishermen's Guild takes place Monday to Friday from 4.30pm to 5.30pm, subject to biological stop dates. A €1 donation is requested in support of the guild's pensioners.
And if the Peñón de Ifach is on your list, remember that advance booking is essential for the visit.
There are several exhibitions running throughout the month.
“La Huella Romana – Baños de la Reina” runs from 1 to 30 September at the Collectionism Museum.
A Playmobil exhibition, marking the 50th anniversary of the Moors and Christians Festival, runs throughout September at the Exhibition Hall at the House of Culture.
And “Converging Dialogues” runs from 2 to 30 September at the Exhibition Hall in the old town hall.
If you're thinking about buying property in Calpe, we'd suggest looking beyond the obvious.
Yes, the beaches are a major attraction. The sea, the Peñón, the marina and the views are all part of what makes Calpe special.
But living somewhere is about what happens when you're not sitting on the beach.
It's the Saturday morning market. It's walking into the Old Town for an evening event. It's finding a concert in a local square. It's taking part in something outdoors. It's having a coffee after a morning walk and deciding what you're going to do for the rest of the day.
September gives you a chance to see that side of Calpe.
And that's useful if you're looking for a home rather than simply somewhere to spend a holiday.
