Whether you already have some experience or you are a complete beginner there are clubs and tuition available for everyone.
Perhaps you’ve already been living in the Costa Blanca for a while and watched those fully enjoying the sea with some envy. Decide which sport appeals to you, join a class and dive in. There are so many water sports to choose from, one will be perfect for you.
If you enjoy a winter ski trip why not try water skiing in the summer? There are several dedicated schools and centres in the Costa Blanca to help with this pursuit.
Surfing is probably common on the Atlantic coast but, the Mediterranean also has some excellent places to surf, particularly in the Denia area. The versatility of Paddleboarding lets you explore the coast getting a gentle workout and then pausing to relax on the water and enjoy the scenery.

After consideration you have chosen which sport you would like to try and now need to find a reputable school or instructor and most coastal towns in the Costa Blanca do have schools offering lessons for all levels, from beginners to advanced. Check their credentials and their experience of teaching in the area with the local conditions that you will be encountering. Speak to them about the equipment needed, most will provide what is necessary so that you do not have to make a large investment in this until you are sure that you are going to continue with the activity. If you do decide that the sport is for you then having your own equipment will allow you to practice.
The sea is unpredictable so, whilst water sports can be exhilarating, it is extremely important to prioritise safety. Always follow your instructor’s advice, make sure you understand local conditions including tides, currents, weather, and wear correctly fitting safety equipment. If you have swum in the sea along the Costa Blanca, you will have notices that the tide and currents can be quite strong at certain times of the day regardless of the weather.
Learning anything new can be challenging but, a water sport might also take you out of your comfort zone so be patient with yourself, take it slowly and do not become discouraged. With practice you’ll improve, and the most important aspect is to have fun and enjoy the experience.
Apart for being fun, water sports offer both physical and mental health benefits, they can improve balance, coordination and strength and being in the water can reduce stress and anxiety.
