Is Jalon Lively?

Those who want to buying property in Jalon away from the busier tourist areas then one of the towns in the Jalon valley might just be the perfect place to begin your search. However, you still want to enjoy a social life and are wondering if these traditional towns might be too quiet. Firstly the Jalon is only a short drive from the coast and surrounded by beautiful mountainous scenery. The Costa Blanca weather remains good throughout most of the year but, in the summer it may be a little cooler than seaside resorts which is no bad thing! So what will you find to do in Jalon once you find a property for sale that suits your needs and budget?

Local Community

The villages in the Jalon valley are inhabited by a great mix of locals and expats from a variety of countries and there is a strong community spirit with festivals and gatherings organised every year to celebrate important historical events, religious celebrations and harvests. This brings the residents together to enjoy their neighbours company and there is always music, dancing, local food and drinks available creating a wonderful atmosphere.

Social Scene

There are bridge and art clubs as well as yoga and fitness clubs. Whether you want a relaxed yoga workout or an intense gym session there is something availble in the Jalon valley including a Pilates studio, a gym which also offers spinning yoga and pilates, a boxing club and a sports centre offering swimming, tennis, padel, basketball and more. 

Music and Theatre

For the more artistically inclined you may wish to join the Jalon Players who perform regular plays and musicals from classic to comteporary on a regular basis and if the stage isn’t for you you might wish to be involved behind the scenes. The Folk group performs traditional Spanish music and dances. There is also a cinema which screens films in a variety of languages and after an evening an enjoying the latest filme with friends why not head to one of the local restaurants who frequently have live music to accompany your meal.

Book Clubs

Those who enjoy literture are also well catered for when they choose to buy a home in Jalon with both a book and a writers club who meet to discuss a variety of books and organise social events as well as supporting aspiring authors. There are clubs just in English as well as mutilingual and Spanish clubs.

Help with Harvest time

The fertile Jalon valley produces grapes, olives, almonds and citrus fruits and havesting these can become a wonderful community event with many farmers appreciating the help of their neighbours to bring in their crop. Not only will you meet lots of people you will also be able to really connect with the traditions of your new home. The grape harvest is concluded with the popular treading fesitval celebrating winemaking traditions in the region and here you will also be able to enjoy sampling the winds that have been produced and dance the night away to live music. 

Charity and Volunteering

If you would like to make really good use of your free time well meeting fascinating people then you might wish to help with one of the local charities and volunteer some of your time. There are Animal chelters for the care of dogs, cats and other animals as well as horse riding centres who appreciate help with the care and maintenance of horses and ponies. To help other less fortunate people in the community you might wish to help with elderly people or those who have ongoing healty or mobilitiy problems to provide companionship or assistance HELP is an organisation who will be very greatful for your offer of assistance including finding time to man the charity shop they have in Jalon. The local U3A as well as organising social events and activities offer support and fund raising for local charities including Project4All who help homeless people with provisions in the Costa Blanca and other areas in Spain.

Conclusion

Buying a home in Jalon Valley will give you the opportunity to enjoy the peaceful countryside and mountains but, join in with as many local activities and clubs as you wish. Yes it is not as lively as some coastal resorts but, it give you a real choice with plenty to do when you want to be sociable. The advantage is that there is a really strong and traditional community so, although there will be a number of fellow expats, you will also find yourself experiencing a more traditional side of Spanish life.
